Beaver Lake

Beaver Lake

My kayak group spent the morning at Beaver Lake in Waukesha County. It is a beautiful lake that is clear with a mostly sandy bottom. The artwork along the shoreline is fun and will bring a smile to your face. But the best part is spending the day with friends. My dear friend Lani took the picture of me in my kayak.

In Wisconsin, our forests have been devastated by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer and many of our waterways are seeing invasive species as well. According to Lake-Link Wisconsin, invasive vegetation includes Eurasian Water-Milfoil and Reed Mana Grass. Invasive water species include Rusty Crayfish and Zebra Mussel.

After the fun day, it’s back to work. As the seasons change, so do the seasonal chores. We are beginning to harvest tomatoes, zucchini and peppers. To me, that sounds like time to can marinara sauce. This batch gave me four and a half quarts. Add some protein cheese and pasta, and each jar will feed us for several days. Thank you to my friend Mary who wasn’t able to make the kayak trip but is always willing to share her harvest.

Enjoy my pictures and be sure to get in some fun between your harvesting!

I am so happy that you are retired and living a peaceful life. The marinara sauce looks terrific!
