Midterm Elections

I vote regularly, but I’ve never worked the polls. This year, I decided to do it for many reasons. Three big ones are that I wanted to contribute my time to a free election, I thought the issues were important, and finally, I wanted to see for myself whether or not the negative election hype was real. It’s not, but sadly, it attracts viewers to news channels that are only out for their own good and not the good of the country. So go vote whenever you have the chance and try working as a poll worker! It’s a great experience.

Election Day

There were old people, young people

Tall people and short people.

People that were happy, excited or scared.

Dirty shoes, boots, platforms and heals.

Hoodies, and collars, pajamas and sweaters.

Down coats, no coats, jackets and t-shirts.

New addresses, purged addresses,

Wrong addresses, name changes.

Orderly corrections, registrations and ballots.

Students, new grads and homebodies.

Doctors and nurses, farmers and truckers.

Young people running in, and old people wheeled in.

People with escorts, walkers, or canes.

Torn clothes, spotted clothes,

Work clothes or party clothes.

Those that are hungry, well fed, or snacking.

Sweet people, lonely people,

Gay people and straight people.

People I know, and those that I don’t.

Neighbors I’ve talked to and some that I won’t.

But this day we’re the same. We all have one vote.

Each vote gets counted, they all count the same.

This day we’re equal. The vote makes it so.

    Stella,

Great blog! Loved the Election Day Poem. Glad you could volunteer.
My voting experience included being rear ended in the parking lot on the way out. Officer was there doing security at the sight. Only a very tiny scrape which I’m not reporting; sad thing is the very elderly, confused driver of the other car had to turn over her keys and was driven home by another officer. So glad she came out to vote. Hopefully she will find a ride so she can come and vote again in two years ( if her confusion’s not too bad). It’s hard enough to vote when your mind is still sharp.
    Blessings! R
