Friendship

Friendship

We had a busy week over Labor Day Holiday, and I’m sure you did, too. Besides time with family, we also spent some time with friends kayaking and hiking.

Our kayak adventure was through the Horicon Marsh. This was on my “to-do” list. While it was wonderful, it was not what I expected; I suppose because I never spent much time in a marsh before and really didn’t know what to expect. There were birds flying through the marsh eating insects which I was grateful for. We were not bothered by mosquitoes. But there were also NO landing spots. Normally this would not be a problem, but one member of our group tipped her kayak TWICE! Lessons learned – don’t pack your lunch behind you in the kayak and carry a bilge pump for baling.

There weren’t trees, so the only birds were water birds. Most of these were hiding from us. We saw plenty of fish jumping and they seemed to be big ones. All in all, a beautiful day spent with friends.

Another day was spent with a grade school friend hiking on the Ice Age Trail, on the Pike Lake segment. Can you say “beautiful”? If you keep an open mind, you will learn something new every single day. This day, I learned how to take pictures from the top of an Observation Tower that overlooked some incredible farmland as well as Pike Lake. What a wonderful way to spend the weekend.

Enjoy my photos of the Horicon Marsh and the Ice Age Trail.

Sharon, it was a delightful hike, with a few challenging moments. Thank you for including us in this Ice Age Trail Section.
